Relationships have their highs and lows, but that’s part of the journey that strengthens the bond between two people who are committed to one other and are determined to make things work.
However, when a third person is involved in the relationship, it adds complexity, and many people are not ready to forgive betrayal of any kind.
A woman took to the social media to share a story that broke her heart but taught her how to love herself more and appreciate the positive aspects of life.
She and her boyfriend, who happened to be a businessman running his own company, have been together for quite some time. Eventually, he popped the question and she was more than happy to agree to a union with him. She has always pictured her life with him, the lazy Sundays, and a little house with a tree swing. In him, she found everything she has ever looked for in a partner.
Her resounding ‘yes’ was met with loud applause from the guests at the fancy restaurant who witnessed the special moment.
She felt like the luckiest girl alive and looked forward to a shared life with the person she believed was her soulmate.
That night, as she lay in bed and made plans about her future, imagining herself wearing the most stunning wedding gown, walking down the aisle, and saying “I do,” she noticed an odd symbol engraved on the ring. A creeping feeling of anxiety settled over her. She had a feeling that she had seen that symbol before.
In a rush, she got out of the bed, and started looking at old photos of her and her boyfriend, as well as his social media posts and photos.
On one of them, she noticed that the same symbol was tattooed on her boyfriend’s ex girl whom he had dated for a couple of years.
Did the ring belong to her? Were they ever engaged? These questions bothered her and she knew she needed to confront her boyfriend.
The following day, she asked questions about his ex, but he was hesitant to answer. The woman couldn’t hold it any longer and asked if his ex ever possessed the ring he proposed with. Shocked by the discovery, he confessed that he and his ex were in fact engaged, and that the ring was a family heirloom and that she returned it back when the engagement was broken off. He went on to convince her that it didn’t really matter that he proposed to her with the same ring, as it held sentimental value for him and his family.
The woman was anxious. She felt that there was more to the story than he was willing to share. She felt betrayed because he had kept something so important from her. The fact that he was engaged to someone else and never mentioned it to her was upsetting, especially because he and his ex were still in touch. She was even very close to his part of the family and was still invited to certain family gatherings.
At that point, she wasn’t sure if she was ready to marry him, so she decided to put their engagement on hold, but that affected their relationship as he accused her of acting childish.
Confused, she wanted to know if she had done the right thing.
