I Never Thought I’d Be the One Holding His Hand at the End After He Lied, Stole Millions, and Broke My Heart—But When Cancer Took Brandon, I Stayed for Our Kids, Standing by Him Despite Years of Hurt, Because Love Means Showing Up Even When Everything’s Fallen Apart, and There’s One Whispered Truth from His Last Breath I’ll Never Forget

Brandon Blackstock, talent manager and ex-husband of Kelly Clarkson, has died at 48 after a private battle with cancer. His family confirmed his passing on Aug. 7, 2025, and tributes soon followed for the longtime music executive.

Clarkson and Blackstock married in 2013 and share two children; their divorce was finalized in 2022. A California labor commissioner later ordered Blackstock to repay more than $2.6 million in commissions, and by May 2024 both sides had settled their remaining lawsuits.

Blackstock managed artists including Blake Shelton and Rascal Flatts and is the son of Narvel Blackstock (and former stepson of Reba McEntire). Colleagues and fans have noted his long presence behind the scenes of country and pop music

Out of respect for the family, many specifics remain private. Public statements have focused on compassion for his loved ones and the couple’s children as they grieve and remember his life and career.
